When I first arrived at Parkwood it was a big change for me.  The management and every single staff member have nurtured and cared for me in a way that I feel they are my extended family – even with the delightful staff who are like daughters.

Now I have been here for a year and the affection, kindness, cheerfulness, fun and absolute excellence of service continue to create a strong sense of security and a different way of being independent.

One of my personal objectives on reaching seventy years of age was to move into a retirement village. I was looking for security, adequate support services and ongoing 24 hour nursing care, as well as the opportunity to continue my involvement with other activities in the wider community.

Having made extensive enquiries of a number of retirement villages, the choice to live in Parkwood was easy.

Life for me since moving here 18 years ago has met all my expectations, and I consider myself fortunate indeed to be living in a genuinely caring community.

When in our early eighties we thought about going into a retirement village, we looked at them all and chose Parkwood. We put our names down and waited a few years until we were offered several villas. The first was too large, the second not quite right. The third had everything we liked – all day sun, a wonderful kitchen and a large garage.

Every villa is different. There are 61 acres of gardens, bush walks and vegetable allotments, and a magnificent library with all the latest books and magazines as well as CDs and DVDs.

Bob was very impressed with the well equipped workshop and the croquet green, all weather bowling green, petanque courts and separate billiards/snooker/pool room. Heather loved the heated swimming pool, regular movies and square dancing. The Seekers travel club goes on local and overseas trips and it is wonderful. They take you to all the major attractions in Wellington – ballet, opera, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, which Bob does not care for but Heather does.  Both of us now we are here enjoy the monthly dinners, dances, concerts, barbeques, exercise classes and garden parties. Lots of activities or doing nothing (sometimes our choice).

Parkwood has amazing staff, all happy and helpful, and very caring nurses – we feel safe and secure.  A big bonus is how much our family, including grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoy visiting us.

We are very happy and feel we are truly living in PARADISE.

Parkwood – the friendly, helpful and fulfilling retirement village.  Everyone is so helpful, nothing is a problem. It was great to be able to add a new kitchen and bathroom to our villa, as well as recarpet and paint.

Where else can you lie in bed and watch and listen to the wood pigeons, tui, eastern rosellas and blackbirds?

Parkwood has the most beautiful gardens, they are quite fantastic with six kilometres of lovely tranquil walks through the native wetland forests. It is like living in the botanical gardens.
