About Parkwood

Parkwood, recognised as one of New Zealand’s most beautiful retirement villages, has a guiding philosophy of providing low density housing within an affordable price range and a quality environment in superb surroundings for mature people eligible to receive New Zealand superannuation.

Indeed it is Parkwood’s ability to offer its residents peace, privacy, security, dignity and freedom; to maintain continual monitoring of residents’ needs and to cater for the changing requirements of individuals that is its heart and soul and distinguishes it from others.

The village is situated in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast in an area renowned for its natural beauty and mild climate and conveniently located to take advantage of local facilities and attractions.

Waikanae itself offers a wide range of facilities and, having a large number of retired people in the community, is particularly well equipped to provide a superb lifestyle for older people.

Parkwood is located in a low density road traffic area less than two kilometres from the town’s shopping centre.

Parkwood Trust exists not for profit, but for the provision of a quality lifestyle. Any financial surpluses made on its operations are applied towards improvements to facilities for the convenience and support of residents.

The Board of Management includes professionals with a wide range of experience and two representatives elected by residents, all making their services available to the Trust on a voluntary basis.

Events vary from plays, concerts, musicals, drives, exhibitions and shopping trips to holidays both within New Zealand and overseas. The Seekers have travelled to Australia, Norfolk Island and Rarotonga; cruised from Budapest to Amsterdam; seen the Northern Lights from Norway; visited Gallipoli, New York, Niagara Falls, Bangkok and Singapore as well as toured through Alaska, China and Vietnam.

During 21 plus years over 1,800 events have been held involving more than 30,300 participants. There have been some wonderful outings and trips, and no doubt there will be many more.

Parkwood Seekers is a very special part of Parkwood Retirement Village.

Are there any fees or charges payable when you leave the Village?

Yes, you pay a retention of 25% of the villa licence value on settlement when you leave Parkwood.  The 25% is calculated on the market value of the unit.  If you are at Parkwood less than three years the retention will be abated on a pro rata basis, eg if you are at Parkwood eighteen months, the retention would be 12.5%.

You will be paid the agreed value of the Licence less the 25% retention when the Licence is sold to a new licensee.  If you were to move to Parkwood Lodge from a villa, the 25% retention would be taken when the villa licence is sold.

How is the villa valued?

The villa is valued independently at market value.  This value is agreed by the parties before any upgrading work is undertaken.  The Trust undertakes any upgrading work necessary on behalf of the incoming resident.
